Meet the Founder
William Laizer
In 1994, at the age of 14, I climbed Kilimanjaro for the first time as a porter. Back then, I did it to finance my schooling for myself and my younger brother Robert. After graduating from school, I worked towards training to become a mountain guide, which I successfully completed in 2006.
I therefore know from years of experience how hard the work of porters on Kilimanjaro is and how meager the salary is.
I have lived in Germany since 2009 and organize trips to Tanzania every year. I am delighted by the increasing number of tourists who take up our offers and want to get to know my homeland better.
I benefit from this because I can travel to my homeland at least once a year. The tourists benefit from me as a German-speaking mountain guide and local expert. It gives me great joy to show people from Germany where I come from. I am also deeply fulfilled that I can provide work for the people of Tanzania through our trips and thus support them.
From my own experience, I know what it’s like for the porters on Kilmianjaro. They’re often cheated out of their wages by companies that are themselves out to make the most profit. Healthcare is nonexistent. If the porters become ill or injured on the mountain, they usually receive neither salary nor support from the company.
We pay attention to good pay and provide training for our employees, and our long-term goal is to provide them with a regular income while also providing health insurance.
Starting my own business and doing something good – that’s a dream come true for me
