This 4-day Mount Meru trekking expedition offers the perfect blend of wildlife encounters, varied landscapes, and summit adventure, all within the spectacular setting of Arusha National Park. Unlike traditional game drives, this trek doubles as a walking safari, giving you an up-close and immersive experience with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Guided by experienced mountain guides and accompanied by an armed park ranger, you’ll traverse everything from grassy savannas and rainforests to alpine deserts and volcanic ridgelines. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and even blue monkeys swinging through the forest canopy.
Your route culminates in a pre-dawn summit attempt to Socialist Peak (4,565m), offering awe-inspiring views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and the distant Tanzanian plains. Nights are spent in cozy, rustic mountain huts, and each day is supported with hot meals and stunning views.

Your journey begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport, followed by a scenic 2.5 to 3-hour drive to Arusha National Park. En route, keep an eye out for giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes. Upon arrival at Momella Gate, your guides will handle park formalities and permits.
Accompanied by an armed park ranger, you'll begin your trek across open grasslands, with wildlife frequently visible along the way. After approximately 2 hours, enjoy a rest and picnic at the picturesque Maio Falls. Continue onward through lush rainforest to the striking Fig Tree Arch before arriving at Miriakamba Huts in time for afternoon tea and snacks.

After breakfast, the trail ascends steeply via wooden steps into the thick rainforest. As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler, making for a more comfortable trek. After about 2 hours, you'll reach the "Mgongo wa Tembo" viewpoint (Elephant Back, 3,200m), an ideal rest spot with breathtaking views.
Continuing upwards, the scenery changes to moorland and heather, and by midday, you'll reach Saddle Hut, your base for the summit ascent. Enjoy a hearty lunch and rest early, as your summit attempt begins shortly after midnight.

Your summit bid begins around midnight under the light of headlamps, ascending through bushland to Rhino Point (3,821m). This segment involves steep and challenging terrain, requiring caution and endurance.
After 4–5 hours, you’ll reach Socialist Peak (4,565m), where sunrise unveils dramatic views over Mount Kilimanjaro and the Meru crater. After soaking in the moment, descend to Saddle Hut for hot tea and soup before continuing to Miriakamba Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Upon arrival at Momella Gate, your vehicle will be ready for your return journey to Arusha (approx. 1.5 hours). The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
