This 4-day Mount Meru trekking expedition offers the perfect blend of wildlife encounters, varied landscapes, and summit adventure, all within the spectacular setting of Arusha National Park. Unlike traditional game drives, this trek doubles as a walking safari, giving you an up-close and immersive experience with the region’s unique flora and fauna.
Guided by experienced mountain guides and accompanied by an armed park ranger, you’ll traverse everything from grassy savannas and rainforests to alpine deserts and volcanic ridgelines. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and even blue monkeys swinging through the forest canopy.
Your route culminates in a pre-dawn summit attempt to Socialist Peak (4,565m), offering awe-inspiring views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Meru Crater, and the distant Tanzanian plains. Nights are spent in cozy, rustic mountain huts, and each day is supported with hot meals and stunning views.

After an early breakfast in Arusha, you'll be transferred to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park (approx. 1–1.5 hours). Upon arrival, porters will organize your equipment while you complete registration procedures with park authorities. The trek begins shortly afterward.
The trail on Day 1 offers a picturesque walking safari experience. Accompanied by an armed park ranger, you'll hike through open grasslands and lush forest, with frequent opportunities to observe giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and various bird species. You'll pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a scenic waterfall before reaching Miriakamba Hut (2,500m), where a hot dinner and sunset views await.

After breakfast, you'll continue your ascent along a steeper trail that climbs along the ridge of the Meru Saddle. The route offers sweeping views of the Meru Crater and Ash Tray, with good chances of wildlife sightings, including monkeys and forest antelope.
Upon arrival at Saddle Hut (3,570m), enjoy a warm meal and rest. For those feeling strong and wishing to further acclimatize, an optional afternoon hike to Little Mount Meru (3,820m) is available with your guide. An early dinner is served to ensure you're well-rested for the summit attempt, which begins shortly after midnight.

You’ll be woken at 12:30 AM for tea and biscuits before beginning your final ascent at around 1:30 AM. The trail is steep and challenging, initially climbing to Rhino Point (3,800m) and Cobra Point (4,350m), followed by a rocky ridge walk that requires careful footing.
After approximately 5 hours of trekking, you will reach Socialist Peak (4,565m), just in time for sunrise. On clear mornings, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Ash Cone, and Mount Meru’s dramatic crater walls.
Following a brief rest at the summit, you’ll descend back to Saddle Hut for a short break and meal, then continue the long descent to Momella Gate, where your driver will be waiting to take you back to Arusha.
