This 3-day safari is designed to showcase the Ndutu plains during the Great Migration’s calving season (typically January to March). During these months, thousands of wildebeest give birth, attracting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas making it one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles in Africa.

You’ll begin in Ndutu, where the calving season unfolds across the short-grass plains. On Day 2, enjoy a full day in Ndutu with an optional hot air balloon safari for breathtaking aerial views of the migration. Finally, on Day 3, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” before returning to Arusha.

This itinerary blend the raw drama of the calving season with the timeless beauty of Ngorongoro, offering an unforgettable short safari.

Day 1: Arusha to Ndutu Plains

Depart Arusha in the morning and drive to the Ndutu area, located in the southern Serengeti ecosystem. This region is the heart of the wildebeest calving season (January–March), when thousands of calves are born daily. The abundance of young prey draws predators, creating thrilling game viewing opportunities.

Enjoy a picnic lunch followed by an afternoon game drive across the plains. In the evening, transfer to your camp in Ndutu for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day in Ndutu – Optional Balloon Safari

Optional activity: Hot Air Balloon Safari over the Ndutu plains at sunrise, followed by a champagne breakfast (advance booking required).

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush and continue with game drives until late afternoon. Return to camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After breakfast, depart Ndutu and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into this spectacular natural caldera, home to elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, hippos, and the rare black rhinoceros. The crater floor offers one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa, making it one of the best places to spot the Big Five in a single day.

Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater before continuing your game drive. In the late afternoon, ascend the crater walls and drive back to Arusha, where your safari concludes.
